Bottom of the table Bray Wanderers slumped to a record ninth Premier Division defeat in a row in the eircom League as goals in each half from Alan Kirby and David Mooney gave Longford Town victory at the Carlisle Grounds.

FAI Cup quarter-finalists Longford had the perfect start when right winger Kirby had them ahead after just three minutes after a clever build-up between Gary Cronin, David Freeman and Mooney.

Kirby made no mistake with a clinical finish when firing past advancing Bray 'keeper Gary Rogers from 14 yards with the Bray defence in total disarray.

But the Seagulls should really have been level on 20 minutes when a clever flick by veteran Kieran 'Tarzan' O'Brien set up an opening for fellow striker Andrei Georgescu.

The Romanian cut in from the left but shot narrowly wide of the far post with Longford goalkeeper Michael Dempsey scrambling across his goal.

Mooney made up for his earlier miss when steering home Longford's second goal from 14 yards on 59 minutes to seal the three points after the Bray defence was again unhinged by a low cross by Sean Prunty on the left.
