Between 1924 and 1936, the team competed as the Irish Free State. The IFA Irish team played its first international outside these islands on 25 May 1922, against Norway in Bergen. In 1924 they hosted a South African team, and they played France in 1928, in Paris. Matches under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Ireland
